Week 1 recap

Week 1 was an amazing success!!   582 patients were seen over 4 days, and due to the high volume, we are nearly out of Vitamin A, calcium, and a few antibiotics.  Both night blindness (related to Vitamin A deficiency) and calcium and Vitamin D deficiency are common in this region of Peru, so we are busy at work this weekend to restock our pharmacy.  We hope to replenish supplies from within Peru, however, it is proving to be difficult to get Vitamin A locally.  Fortunately, we have participants heading down over the coming weekends and they will be able to take Vitamin A with them.  Unfortunately, we are also out of toothbrushes and lotion, and are still looking for ways to replenish these items.

Mark these supply snafus down as lessons learned for next year.

  1. The good news-you have already seen a third of the total # of patients we saw all month last year, in just FOUR DAYS!
Bound to run out of supplies-would not consider it a SNAFU but a good problem to have! We are working at this end to replenish asap-keep up the good work!!!
